Let Not Poor Nelly Starve

from Limbs - Spunk by Michael Chadwick

lyrics

A haircut doesn't choose how it wants to be remembered.
Take the toothbrush mustache.
Notorious now obsolete but once a shining icon him and Charlie ruled the silver screen.

But in your final breath,
as your Neurons hold their fire.
And your tongue bows to retire.
The things you say forever said, and into it meanings often read,
so make them good, I like these:

"Let not poor Nelly starve"
exclaimed a dieing King Charles.
Faced with white light,
Of the conscience of this King in life I don't know.
But I like him for the romance in his death throws.

Isadora Duncan said to move was to be free.
She danced outside society.
And lived a life unique enough to top off with an epitaph as glorious as this. She said:

"Adieu mes amis, and off I go to glory"
Then she waved goodbye,
her scarf trapped round the spokes and tyres.
And the bloody mess she left behind was tragic,
but the foresight in her last words fantastic.

As bullets swept,
and crept up the crease,
John Sedgwick stands.
Unflinching, unmoved,
these bullets a breeze.
Cowards you dodge.
"They couldn't hit and elephant at this distance!"

Let not poor Nelly Starve
Adieu mes amis "and off I go to glory"
And me well i'd say, "Ignition sequence start away!"
