Sandwiches (now I pretend to eat)

from Limbs - Spunk by Michael Chadwick

/

lyrics

I've tortured every muscle, everyday to get this far.
To build my engine beyond contention.
And now I pretend to eat sandwiches,
Jalapenos, ham and radishes.
Dreamin' up perfect medleys of
salty, soft, crunchy and sweet.

I've trained on highest mountains, gasping down the thinnest air.
At the beck and call of a medicine ball.
And now I pretend to eat sandwiches,
crunchin' on frosty lettuces,
cos pasties are for savages,
don't fill up that hole with horse-meat!

But I remember, I remember the crowds.
The exhilaration of winning and feeling a new life beginning.
And I remember, I remember. Saying "hard cheese"
To the loser slumped on his knees as I performed my victory lap
of honor, of courage and pride,
as tears of a nation welled up in my eyes.
The acclaim that it brought me was all well and good.
But being a hero won't buy me a sub.
So I stood by a green-screen and modeled the bread,
and I winked at the camera, caressed the salad.
And in the interest of health, yeah I kept on my kit.
To convince you all, that athletes eat this shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!

And
Now I pretend to eat sandwiches
Now I pretend to eat sandwiches
Now I pretend to eat sandwiches
Now I pretend to eat sandwiches

A nation that is proud of me will surely, will surely, will surely, surely, surely swallow this.
